FAQs
Who can practice Pilates?
Anyone!
As our founder loves to say, "Pilates was made for the body, not the other way around." We offer 1:1 Private Sessions to help beginners find their way, intermediate level clients grow their practice, advanced practitioners refine their studio time, athletes, weekend warriors, moms, dads, teens, those in recovery from injury or illness, and everyone in between meet their goals.
We hear all the time “I’m not flexible/strong enough for Pilates.” The great news is that you come to Pilates in order to develop those assets and skills. It’s not a competition, it’s a conditioning class and personalized practice that helps your body find greater ease in all the other parts of life.
It's a great idea to meet with one of our instructors to help you discover what feels right for your body, mind and spirit. Our studio offers something for every level and a path for every goal. Come as you are. We love to help those who feel uncertain about their place on the mat or apparatus discover confidence, strength and flexibility in mindful movement.
1
How do I get started?
It’s so simple. Give us a call or stop by. We’ll walk you around the studio, tell you a bit about the equipment and how we put it to you. We’ll go over your goals and outline a strategic custom path whether that involves 1:1 sessions, regular class attendance, or a little bit of both. Also, you are free to take a look at our schedule, pick a package and sign up for a class.
2
How Often Should I Practice Pilates?
3
We suggest 3 or more times per week to form a progression in your practice and transformation in your body. If you only have 10 minutes one day, enjoy a simple Pilates Hundred, one of the abs series exercises, a Swan-prep exercise, and a simple twist to balance out your body. Pilates goes beyond the studio. When you commit to even bite-sized practices on days that you can't make it to a class or private session, you will experience the difference Pilates makes.
What should I bring and what should I wear?
4
We provide the mats and props. Although, some clients do prefer to bring their own Pilates mat, and that’s fine with us.
We encourage you to bring a bottle of water. We do sell SmartWater if you forget.
If you tend to sweat a lot during workouts, we recommend you bring a hand towel or yoga towel to support your grip. And yes, you may wear grip socks. In fact, they are required in Reformer and Tower classes/sessions, but not for Mat classes.
We suggest comfortable clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Avoid overly loose garments that might interfere with your practice or any items that may shift to expose private areas during practice.
Gentlemen — we do require you wear a shirt, tank top at a minimum, and bike-shorts/leggings underneath any loose shorts (built-in undies are not sufficient).
Ladies, we do not allow tennis skirts as a proper form of Pilates athletic-wear. Please wear bike-shorts that cover your glutes completely, leggings or well-fitting sweatpants. Also, sports bras must provide proper coverage and not require constant adjustment throughout practice.
We also encourage you to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to class, 10-15 minutes prior if it's your first time practicing with us so there is ample time to sign our required client waiver.
Why Can’t I Wear My Shoes in The Practice Space?
5
Shoes are not allowed in the Pilates practice space to maintain cleanliness. Debris and unseen bacteria can be carried in on our soles. This can transfer to bare feet and grip socks and end up where bare hands and faces make contact with mats and equipment surfaces. Although we sanitize after each class and private session, we cannot mop floors at those same intervals. Out of respect for the health of staff and fellow class members, we are a shoes-off inside facility. You will see your instructor wearing shoes that are deemed for the practice space alone. This is so, while during several hours of teaching and adjusting, her hips and low back are well supported and, ultimately, so she can continue being your expert experienced guide without interruption.
Do You Have Showers?
No, we do not have shower facilities at the studio. We do have one changing room, one restroom and cubbies for all of our clients to store their belongings during practice.
6
Can I Have My Cellphone in Class?
7
No. To maintain a respectful, serene and focused environment, we ask that cell phones are not brought into the practice space. If you would like to take photos/videos, briefly do so in the 5-10 minutes prior to or following class so as to help maintain the flow between classes. Always ask permission from fellow classmates if they are ok with being in any photo or video you take? We ask that all phones be turned off completely so that phones do not ring or buzz loudly while practice is in-session. Talk to us about any extenuating circumstances that might require you to keep your phone nearby.
